Reimagining education in this abnormal times

Education is the process by which knowledge is brought within the reach of people through teaching and learning. When we are educated, out talents and personalities are developed. Education must therefore be about developing the whole man hence it must looked at with a holistic approach.

Reimaging education should be about developing ,retreating and looking at education with a lens that twerks and brings out the best in education. It should be thinking logically, critically, systematically and persistently about education, the challenges that affect it, the nature of our society and about our beliefs, our values, and about concepts.

It is important at this juncture to study what scholars in the field have thought about education and how we should reimagine it. John Dewey, an American educationist, in his book " Democracy and Education" says that education should concern itself with the reoganisation, reconstruction and transformation of experience. 

Mallinson also argues that " the state must have a dogmatic philosophy and must act upon it, a philosophy which confidently affirms something definite about the origin, the destiny and the nature of man and which provides a broad and sure basis for the elaboration of an educational system that will meet to the fullest all the demands the state is impelled to put upon it" Hence , reimagining education, there are certain basic criteria using the technical terms:

Metaphysics in education looks at the nature of man and the society as conceived by that society.

Epistemology looks at the nature of knowledge worth having it and the process of its acquisition.

Axiology also looks at the nature of value system or a theory of what it considers most valuable and worth having.

Akinpelu enumerated four skills that should constitute any proper essential component of education.

Language skills: to introduce students into his culture.

Scientific skills: to introduce the student into the orderliness in nature , to enable him to appreciate the wonders of nature and to see the hand of God behind it all.

Normative skills: to introduce the student into moral issues-proper relationship with his fellowman and his God.

Aesthetic skills: to introduce the student into the appreciation of literature ,arts, and nature in general.

Reimagining education should therefore concern itself with issues of education that make it more individualised and effective. And that can be possible using and applying some innovative algorithms in education, like e-learning, AI, blockchain , critical thinking kills , language and collaboration, problem solving, special education etc

"Life is a battle of strengths. Those who dominate it are those who embrace what they are good at and gave it their all.''
