2023 WASSCE CANDIDATES HIGH PERFORMANCE

First of all we need to commend our teachers , and all stakeholders in education for this great feat or performance. While acknowledging and praising them, it's important for us to figure out what caused this great performance? The ingredients that can propel high performance is usually in several factors;

*Well trained and dedicated teachers.

*Sufficient teaching and learning materials.

*Good school infrastructure.

*Strong School management and parents associations.

*Effective supervision

*Discipline and self motivated learners.

Over the past several years, the government has invested a lot in terms of infrastructure to especially senior high schools, that's in the Kuffour Model SHS concept where at least one SHS in each district is face lifted with good infrastructure. Then Atta Mills and John Mahama E-Block concept. And now the Free SHS and Stem school concept to help increase access to education in Ghana for Junior High School graduates.

The number of JHS graduates who have benefited from all these interventions from past and present government is really great and the government should really continue to invest in the sector.

The importance of education cannot be over emphasized. And therefore there must be continuous effort to make the sector better which will in the long run make the economy vibrant and prosperous.

Though the students have done well based on the results but there are some challenges that need urgent attention. That's the issue of examination malpractices that is becoming an annual ritual.

There's also issues of growing indiscipline among the youth especially our high school students. Thats vandalism, bullying, sexual misconduct, cybercrime just to mention a few. As said by Plato "education should teach a man to fight against the ugly and to strive constantly for the good and beautiful"

The latest issue of mass exodus of teachers in search of greener pastures abroad, must be tackled with alacrity else all these investment in education may go down the drain.

Ayekoo to our gallant SHS graduates. Keep soaring.

*This is my take as a teacher on the field.
